Delta Variant and Logistics

The COVID-19 Delta variant is a highly contagious form of the virus that is currently wreaking havoc on the United States. Learning more about the Delta variant is essential to navigating how to conduct business at this time. The following information comes directly from the CDC’s website, https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/variants/delta-variant.html

  1. The Delta Variant is 2x as contagious compared to other variants

This means that it is much easier to catch the Delta Variant than other forms of the virus. The reason why COVID has become a pandemic is because it is a novel virus. Unless you have been exposed to it, your system has no antibodies to fight it.

  1. The Delta Variant may be more severe

Studies from Canada and Scotland show that patients with the Delta variant were more likely to be hospitalized. This is in conjugation with the fact that the “vast majority of hospitality and death caused by COVID are in unvaccinated people”.

  1. Unvaccinated people are the most susceptible to the Delta variant

“People who are unvaccinated are “much more likely to get infected, and therefore transmit the virus”.

  1. Vaccinated people with breakthrough infections can spread the Delta variant to other people

The stipulation to this is that fully vaccinated people spread the virus for a short amount of time. Less viral genetic material is necessary to present symptoms of the delta variant. This means that people with breakthrough infections have less virus to pass on to others.

Wearing masks and being vaccinated are our best defenses against the Delta variant. Obviously business cannot stop due to the Delta variant, but continuing COVID safety measures is a necessity.
